چکیده

The unique high-resolution digital terrain data set available for Ganymede’s Uruk Sulcus area and Galileo Regio is analyzed by quantitative image analysis techniques to identify relationships between surface brightness, elevation, and slopes. Broad and narrow ridges and grooves of the Uruk Sulcus terrain model are found to be aligned with bright and dark lineament patterns visible in images. These prominent lineaments represent areas covered by bright and dark albedo material, not effects of photometric shading. There is a strong correlation between material locations and elevation: bright material is found on topographic highs, whereas dark material is located in depressions; the relative abundance of the dark material increases with lower elevation. In Galileo Regio, we find that bright material is also located on slopes facing north. We suggest that the bright material in Uruk Sulcus and Galileo Regio was emplaced or exposed during or after formation of the terrain in its present location, whereas the dark material was eroded and redistributed down-slope. Effects of net solar illumination may play a role in the peculiar azimuthal distribution of bright and dark material on slopes. c © 1999 Academic Press

Ganymede Craters: Relationships between Spectral Properties and Crater Retention Age

Introduction: Both bright and dark craters occur on Jupiter's satellite Ganymede. The Near Infrared Mapping Spectrometer (NIMS) onboard the Galileo spacecraft performed spectroscopic measurements of Ganymede in the spectral range of 0.7 to 5.2 microns [1]. Observations of Ganymede's craters acquired at sufficiently high spatial resolution coordinated with Galileo SSI (Solid State Imaging) obser...

The differences are thought due to the relative weakness of ice and the possible presence of sub-surface water layers. Digital elevation...

تغییرپذیری فرسایش سطحی و دانه‌بندی ذرات خاک نسبت به جهت و درجه شیب دامنه در منطقه نیمه‌خشک در غرب زنجان

Soil erosion by surface runoff introduced as surface erosion is one of the main mechanisms of land degradation in the hill slopes. Slope characteristics including aspect and gradient can control the differences of soil properties along the hillslope. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of slope aspect and gradient on variations of some soil properties in the short slopes. Five hi...

Investigation of Changes in Rangeland Vegetation Regarding Different Slopes, Elevation and Geographical Aspects (Case Study: Yazi Rangeland, Noor County, Iran)

In many studies, topographic factors have been considered as an important factor in establishing the vegetation in different ecosystems. So, it affects vegetation composition and diversity by influencing soil moisture, fertility and soil depth. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of slope, elevation and geographical aspects on species growth, forage production and vegetation...
